Holidays are a lot of fun. People coming together, special events occurring, hearts filling with happiness.. I'm not sure all what it is, but I SO enjoy holidays. I went to a park last night with friends for a 3rd of July celebration with singing and fireworks and girl scouts. The firework show was spectacular.. I loved the ones that are gold colored and go up and then fan out and fall.. and the ones that shoot out all crazy like a bunch of confused fireflies.. When groups of people come together for a common interest, it is wonderful! community. Now, for all you you that need a refresher on the reason behind the day.. here is one from History.com:
Independence Day in the U.S., is an annual holiday commemorating the formal adoption by the Continental Congress of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, in Philadelphia. Although the signing of the Declaration was not completed until August, the Fourth of July holiday has been accepted as the official anniversary of U.S. independence and is celebrated in all states and territories of the U.S.
The holiday was first observed in Philadelphia on July 8, 1776, at which time the Declaration of Independence was read aloud, city bells rang, and bands played. It was not declared a legal holiday, however, until 1941.
